A Democracy is Born
All over the
world, ocean films are being produced by professionals and amateurs
alike. The barrier of entry into the ocean video production business
has all but vanished. Watermen and women across the ocean are picking
up video cameras (some of them High Definition), putting them in
underwater housings (or plastic bags for that matter), and capturing
breathtaking scenery and marinelife behaviour never before seen. Add an
affordable digital editing system to the mix and the circle is
complete--The Ocean Channel content constituency has arrived.
And we want you to be a part of it.

"So what's the advantage to filmmakers? Why should I care whether The
Ocean Channel knows about my film or not?"
We're working for you as much as we're working for our audience--the
ones who come to Ocean.com to watch and buy your films. There are a
number of ways we can help to get more people seeing your work and
getting your message--your story--out there.
And yes, we can help to
make you some money too.
Here's a handful of good reasons to let us know about your film...
Licensing and Distribution
This is where it gets interesting. The short story is this: You "list"
your film with Ocean Channel Media Distributiuon (OCMD) and we offer it
to 'media buyers.' Media Buyers are exactly that--they buy media. In
our case, ocean media. They are broadcasters, podcasters,
narrowcasters, museums, aquariums, airlines, hotels, resorts, cruise
ships, Pay per View, educators, government agencies, & non-profits.
Who'd I miss?
Media buyers are a stressed out bunch. They don't have a moment to
waste. So it makes sense for them to visit a single "clearing house" of
the exact kind of content they are looking for. That's us--Ocean
Channel Media Distribution.
And we're going to make it very easy for media buyers. (Remember,
they're stressed.)
The Ocean Channel development team is currently working on
OceanChannel.com. This will to be a 'b 2 b' web site where media buyers
can easily browse through the entire Ocean Channel media collection and
submit an offer for their specific needs (region, term, format, market,
etc.). We are already handling several requests each week from buyers
interested in the films seen on The Ocean Channel.
Submit your film today and let our content review panel decide the best
market opportunity for your film.
DVD Sales
Let The Ocean Channel sell your ocean film in our Ocean Store.
Makes sense, right? Just send us the teaser or trailer and we can work
out the details with the Store Manager.
Market your upcoming TV premiere or Theatrical Release
OK, not everyone is producing for the web. There are some incredibly talented producers out
there producing amzing television.
If you are a producer or broadcaster of an upcoming ocean TV program,
let us know. We will run a promotional campaign for you that includes
the show's teaser, featured article on the home page of Ocean.com,
etc.--and the same promotion is available for upcoming Hollywood
feature releases that have something to do with the sea.
Contact our
sales group and we will set this up for you (6 week lead time).
Advertising
The more popular your film is with our audience, the greater the
percentage of the ad dollar spent on The Ocean Channel you will get.
Sponsors can request to have their brand associated only with your
film--good reason to have your film on TOC.
Promoting & exposing your film
to the world
Agreat way to get your film the exposure it deserves is on The Ocean Channel. Producers tell us that as a result of having their film seen on The Ocean Channel, they have been asked to produce more films. Every film accepted and screened on The Ocean Channel has a Film
Profile (here is what a Film Profile looks like). Filmmakers are often not great at self promotion--let us do this for you.
Send us your "media package" or any promotional imagery from your
film--preferably on a CD and web ready art.
These images and the text
copy you provide (50-100 words) will be used to create your film
profile in The Ocean Channel database and promoted around the pages of
Ocean.com.
What Filmmakers Need to Know About Submitting to The Ocean Channel
Before we put your film onto TOC, we will need to review it on DVD or, if it is available, online. Once we have seen your film and agree that it would be a good fit for the channel, we will send you a Distribution Agreement for your review and signature. After we have this document, we will request a MASTER version of the film in
the following accepted Formats:
Tape--HDV; NTSC BetaSP; DVCAM; MiniDV
Digital--QuickTime
(Email us for compression configurations.)
Download this PDF file and fill out the Film Submission Form.
Length
Any length is welcome...a 30 second PSA or hour long Feature. We're not on a programming schedule here. Any length works.
