Kelp wrack (the stalks of kelp washed ashore by storms) provides an important food source and habitat for many creatures on which several species of shore birds-- starlings, common crows, black phoebes and warblers--depend on for food. This brief film from video journalist, Jessica Waters, interviews Dr. Jenny Dugan of the University of California, Santa Barbara--an expert in beach ecology. Should we rake the beach for 'appearance' sake--even if we know it's not good for the beach?
