McGinnis is an ocean person, some say a 'waterman.' He truly loves the sea. And his work at the University of California, Santa Barbara campus reflects his passion for the ocean.
In the four chapters of this interview, Mike takes us in the water with him surfing a "windex wave" in Tahiti and paddling steadily away from an incoming Great White shark. But Mike's experience and knowledge of the sea is not limited to surfing, though he has surfed since he was 9. As the Director of the Marine & Coastal Policy Center at UCSB, Mike studies people and their relationship with the sea.
Listen closely to what he has to say. He is a poet and, possibly, a prophet and his words should be held in high regard.
