What is The Ocean Channel?
The Ocean Channel, Inc. is a new-media corporation based in Carpinteria, CA. It's focus is the aggregation, production and distribution of premium ocean content for an array of media--specifically, broadband Internet, television, and DVD home video. The Ocean Channel, Inc. was founded in April of 2000 as a registered California corporation and seeks global partnerships with filmmakers, marine institutes, universities, and marine conservation organizations.

The Ocean Channel is also the name of the section of Ocean.com dedicated to providing visitors with high quality, educational, and entertaining ocean programming. Devised by founder, Michael Hanrahan, The Ocean Channel is an online channel where visitors can access their favorite films about the ocean realm...instantly. Ocean documentaries, educational films, travel logs, and adrenaline sport films are all available anytime--day or night. No longer limited by the program schedule of television, our audience will watch what they want to watch when they want to watch it.

One central goal of The Ocean Channel is to provide a new distribution avenue for professional and amateur ocean-filmmakers alike (learn more) . Additionally, a critical element of this channel is the commitment to presenting the many immediate conservation issues which face the global oceans. We will not shy away from presenting the difficult facts regarding the mounting pressures on the oceans. It is only through knowledge and education that we can expect our audience to recognize the challenges the sea faces now and in the future.

Is The Ocean Channel available on TV?
No, it is not. But increasingly, people are turning away from television and using the web as their source of news, education, and entertainment. There is an obvious trend, especially amongst young people, to spend more time online interacting with their requested content. Televisions as we know them are being replaced by large 'flat-screen,' wall-mounted LCD or plasma monitors connected to high-speed computers such as the Apple "Mini".

This is the future.
And this is where The Ocean Channel thrives.

Programmed with "ocean people" in mind, The Ocean Channel is your source for accessing a broad menu of ocean movies, documentaries, sporting events, and more. We are always in search of more content to round out our already rich media archive. If you are a filmmaker and would like to discuss producing films for The Ocean Channel, please contact us.

Thanks very much for your interest in the company. We appreciate your time.
